W.A. Daugherty, one of the best known residents of Carterville, died at 1:00 a.m. this morning at his home, after a lingering illness. He had been confined to his room for several months prior to his death. Mr. Daugherty had lived in the county nearly forty years and was the founder of Carterville. Mr. Daugherty had been very successful in mining operations and owned much property at the time of death. He was president of the First National Bank of Carterville and was a member of the Methodist church south and was a Knight Templar. Surviving are his widow; sons, James and Benjamin; and three daughters, Mrs. E.N. Thornton, Mrs. B.F. Hatcher and Mrs. C.L. Gray. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, the Knight Templars acting as escort. They will assemble at 2 p.m. at the residence at Main and Pine St. and march to the South M.E. church at 2:30 p.m. Dr. C.C. Woods of St. Louis and Rev. Mr. Vivian, pastor of the Carterville church will have charge of the services. Internment will be in the Webb City cemetery.
