Sister Kathleen M. Garvey, IHM, (formerly Sister M. Roderick) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, December 26, 2004, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on March 25, 1928 in Coeur d'Alene, ID, and was the daughter of the late William and Laura Secaur Garvey. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 23, 1946, made temporary profession of her vows on May 9, 1949, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1952.
Sister Kathleen served as teacher at the following schools: Nativity of Our Lord School in Scranton, PA, from 1949 to 1951; Sacred Heart School in La Plata, MD; St. Lawrence Academy in Portland,OR; and the IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID.
Sister Kathleen also served on the support staff of the IHM Center and the Marian Convent, both in Scranton, PA.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Marywood College.
She is preceded in death by a brother, William, and sister, Joan Steel.
She is survived by a brother, Reverend Roderick, C.Ss.R. of Jal, NM, five sisters, Colleen Chase of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Frances Hagen of Rigby, ID, Rita Fitzpatrick of Spokane, WA, Bernita Garvey of Spokane, WA, and Mary MacFarland of Coeur d'Alene, ID, nephews, nieces and grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral will be on Monday, January 3 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon at the Marian Convent.
