Ellesworth was born in Milnor ND and moved to Velva with his father to a farm north east of Velva. He married Pearl Ada Louise Dreier and they had 9 children 6 of whom lived to adulthood. Four children are buried in the Simcoe ND Stenkjaer Lutheran Cemetery, three children and Alvin. Ellesworth worked as a steam pipe fitter and in the later years as a resort owner and farmer.
