Joe L. Allen, 85, retired Coke County farmer and father of an Odessa resident, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Valley Fair Lodge Nursing Home in Colorado City after a long illness.
He was born Oct. 14, 1879, in Tennessee and came to Coke County in 1918 from Corsicana.
He was married to Jennie Young, who died in I913. He was married to, Mrs. Willie Swafford in 1918, and she died in 1937.
He was a Baptist.
He is survived by a son, Chester Allen, Odessa; a daughter, Mrs. Florence Green, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepson; J. W. Swafford, Dallas, and several nieces and nephews.
