succumbed suddenly at the family home here Tuesday afternoon from a heart
attack.
She had- been in declining health for some time, but her sud- den death came as a distinct shock
to relatives and friends. Mrs. Waldrop was a daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs.
Wilburn Hemphill, and was born at Flor- ence in Rankin county on Decem- ber 21, 1875. She had made her home in Newton for 16 years or more, and was a member of the
Baptist church. Surviving Mrs. Waldrop are three
sons,
Roby Waldrop of
Newton, Henry Hurst and Charles Waldrop of Fairhope, Ala.; seven daughters,
Mrs. F. E.
Wilcox of
Beaumont,
Texas, Mrs. E.
. Mabry of Jack-
son,
Mrs. L.
H. Berry of Magee,
Mrs. E.
J.
Valentour of Jackson,
Miss Nell Waldrop of
Jackson, Miss Frances Waldrop of Tallade- ga, , and Mrs. D. J. Miley, Jr.,
13 grandchildren;
two
brothers, J. E. Hemphill of Bran-
don and
Frank Hemphill of Lafay-
ette, La.; and one sister, Mrs. J. T. Neeley of Jackson. Mr.. Wal-
drop died in June, 1943. The funeral was conducted Thurs- day morning at ten o'clock from the
local Baptist church.
, The Revs. L. Boyd and J. E. Wills officiat- ed, in the absence of the pastor, who is out of town. Interment was in the Masonic cemetery here.
