Services Held For Charles H. Nelson, Early Pioneer
Charles Henry Nelson, who died last Thursday at his home in Bedford, after a lingering illness, was born February 28, 1872 at Copenhagen, Denmark. He came to America at the age of ten to join his mother and brother who were living at Liberty, Idaho.
He married Susan C. Hymas in 1893 in the Logan Temple. Fifteen children were born to this union and eleven are still living.
Mr and Mrs Nelson came to Star Valley in 1902 and settled in Thayne where they resided for 22 years.l At Thayne Mr Nelson served as first counselor to Bp Hokanson and later as ward clerk under Bishop Miller. the family moved to Bedford in 1924 and have resided there since. Mr Nelson served as Justice of the Peace at Bedford.
Funeral services were held in the Bedford chapel, July 8, 1951, under the direction of Bishop Norville Fluckiger. The services were as follows:
Prayer in the home Lyman A. Hymas; Processional music, Lenore Fluckiger; Opening prayer James A. Hymas; Song, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought", by the Bedford choir; First speaker Stanley Rose, Ogden, Utah; remarks, Bishop Norville Fluckiger; Song Bedford ward choir "What Voice Salutes the Startled Ear", Benediction Ernest Wolfley; Dedication Ernest D. Hymas. Burial was in the Thayne cemetery. Pall bearers were his five sons and one grandson and flowers were carried by his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Susan C. Nelson and the following children; Mrs Maud Merritt Salmon, Idaho; Mrs Ruth Rose, Ogden Utah; Sterling Nelson, Bedford; Mrs Merle Schiess, Freedom; Reed Nelson, Mrs LaRue Campbell, Mrs rhea Wake, Afton; Mrs Nan Hughes, Layton, Utah; Max Nelson, Auburn; Wan Nelson Bedford and Ford Nelson Freedom.
