Robert E. Hubon was second of three boys, all born in New York, to Irish immigrants Joseph Hubon & Martha Kelly. His father died when he was three. Robert enlisted in the US Navy and at age 17 (per the 1910 US Census) he was serving as a sailor on the USS New Hampshire.
He married Harriet Weir and they lived in Manhattan, New York. They had two children, a boy named Robert and a girl named Harriet. The family eventually moved to San Diego where Robert continued to serve in the Navy. Robert died at age 37. His children were still in their early teens.
