Funeral services for J. Thomas Marshall, age73, were to be held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the Broad street Christian church. Rev. Nelson M. Fox will conduct the rites. Interment will follow in Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Marshall was born in Henry county, May 24, 1866, the son of John Washington Marshall and Susan Donovant Marshall. He spent his entire life here where he was a merchant. He was married to Emeline Applewhite, of Suffolk, and is survived by his wife, two daughters, Miss Elizabeth Marshall of this city and Mrs. George Morris, of Kansas City, Mo. Also four sisters survive: Mrs. J. H. Ashworth and Mrs. J. P. Hill, of Martinsville; Mrs. J. W. Doyle, of Ridgeway, and Miss Annie Marshall, of Roanoke.

He had been an active member of the Broad Street Christian church of which he was superintendent of the church school for 30 years. He was also active in the fraternal organizations of this city.
