This was my Uncle Al. He was born in Pettit, Randolph County, West Virginia. He died in Denison, Grayson County, Texas. His parents were Charles Clayton Allender Sr. and Anna Laura Miller Allender.

He enlisted in the Army in October, 1940. Private Allender arrived in Hawaii on Christmas Eve, 1940. He was a member of "C" Company, 21st Division that was quartered in the 21st Infantry Quadrangle. He was leaving his quarters on the morning of December 7, 1941, when the Japanese planes flew overhead. He had stated that the first Japanese airplane that he saw was flying so low overhead that he could clearly see the pilot. He spent more than 20 years in the Army, Army Air Corps and the Air Force before retiring.
