Veteran Rule Business Man Succumbs

RULE, April 24.--(Spl)--Funeral services were to be held Monday afternoon from the First Baptist church for G. W. May, 87, a pioneer of Rule. The services were to be conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J. W. Partin, with the Gauntt Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was made in the Rule cemetery.

May was born in Knox county, Tennessee, in 1851. In 1905 he moved his family to Rule and engaged in the hardware and grocery business for many years, and was one of the large cotton buyers in this section. For a number of years he was president of the First National bank. Several years ago he retired from other active business to look after his extensive farming interests. He had been a member of the Baptist church 48 years, and was a charter member of the Rule Baptist church.

Last fall he and Mrs. May celebrated their 60th wedding anniversay, when more than three hundred friends called.

Surviving are the wife, three sons and three daughters; John May of Knox City, George May of Sweetwater and Sam May of Rule; Mrs. C. E. Lott, Mrs. Ora McCollough and Mrs. E. O. Morgan, all of Rule; and a number of grand children and great grand children.

Pall beareres were to be: O. Cole, E. D. Weaver, Lovie Hill, Elmer Watson, Matt Graham, A. M. Morgan, and Tom Watson.

Honorary pall bearers: Dr. M. W. Rogers, Joe Cloud, W. W. Kittley, Lee Norman, W. D. Norman, Tom Denison, W. H. Doss, J. F. Simpson, J. E. Lindsey, R. W. Cross, T. J. Cannon, Dr. J. B. Ragan and Dr. J. B. Westbrook.

Those in charge of flowers were: MMes L. W. Davis, Jess Place, Chester Baker, Hartwell Smith, R. K. Denson, C. F. Norman, D. C. Rogers, F. E. Gauntt, J. A. Lisle, Audie Verner, J. E. Geer, J. D. Crockert.
