Robert James (should be Jones) Allen, age 44, and for many years a citizen of Martinsville, passed away at a local hospital late Friday evening following an illness that had extended over a period of several months. Since October he began to decline in health, and five weeks ago, he was removed to the Shackleford Hospital, where his condition might be improved. Death resulted from a complication of diseases.
Funeral services were held from the late home on Rives Road Sunday afternoon, with members of the Patrick Henry Lodge of the Knights of Pythias in charge.
Funeral services were from the home and interment made in Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving the deceased is his wife, and two children, Robert, age six and Jack, age three years.
His step-mother, Mrs. Q. M. Allen, one brother, P. L. Allen of Roanoke, five sisters, Mesdames James R. Bondurant, Joe H. Stultz, both of Martinsville, J. D. Jones of Axton, Joe Hairfield of Sandy River and Mrs. G. E. Bondurant of Danville also survive.
The deceased was born near Sandy River, and at an early age moved with his parents to Martinsville, where he spent most all of his life.
He was educated in the public schools of this city, and for many years later, held positions with the R. J. Reynolds Company here and in Winston, N.C.
For the past several years he had been in the automobile business, and at the time of his death was connected with the Gardner Brothers Motor Company.
About seven years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Eggleston of this city, who with two children survive.
