Elaine Underkofler, 96, of Grand Island died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Tiffany Square Center.
Private family services will be held at a later date, with her ashes entombed in the Trinity United Methodist Church Columbarium.
All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Underkofler was born Oct. 27, 1912, at Gooding, Idaho, to Samuel and Ruth (Bolton) Chaney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Underkofler, in 1997 and by a daughter, Merry Stewart.
Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Larry Rutar of Grand Island.
Other survivors are grandchildren, Jennifer DeLaet and Jacy Bruno.
Elaine was raised in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, graduating from high school in Spokane, Wash.,in 1929. She received a bachelor's degree from Washington State University. She moved to Olympia, Wash., where she worked for Washington Department of Education. Later, she was employed for the Federal Government. She also taught school at Modesto California State College.
She was united in marriage to Bill Underkofler on July 24, 1939, in California.
They moved to Boise, Idaho, in 1952 before coming to Grand Island in 1979.
Elaine was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school for many years and serving on the church's education committee. She enjoyed music, reading and spending time with family.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Tracy; and a brother, Sam Chaney Jr.
