L. Elwin Alley was born on the Allen Kerbow farm in Ben Franklin to Edgar Lee & Florence (Kerbow) Alley. Florence died a few days after Elwin was born and he & his brothers, Ed, Jr. & Wendell were taken to the home of Willie & Odie (Smith) Alley in the Long Taw community where they were given loving care.

They went to school & church there. Ed,Sr. & Willie worked the farm, then Ed, Sr. died less than 2 years after Florence. Willie died April 11, 1938. When L. Elwin graduated from Cooper High School, all 3 of his brothers were far from home, 2 in the army & 1 in the navy. He soon joined the navy.

Their mother, Odie's prayers were answered...all 4 of her boys came home after the war. After coming home from the war, L.Elwin went to live in Dallas & married Imogene Stevens. They had 2 children, Francis Lamoine Alley born Jan. 4, 1948, & an infant they named Mary Ann, born & died July 4, 1950. L. Elwin & Imogene Alley divorced. L. Elwin died June 23, 1978 and was buried in the old Liberty Grove cemetery.
