Catharine E. Ruffner, 98, of Adrian, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in the Armstrong County Health Center. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. A full obituary will appear in Tuesday's paper. Arrangements entrusted to SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME in Cowansville.

Catharine E. Ruffner, 98, of Adrian, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in Armstrong County Health Center. She was born Jan. 7, 1911, in Washington Township, daughter of the late A. Reed and Margaret J. (McCollim) Bowser, and was a lifelong resident of the community. She was also a lifelong member of Montgomeryville Baptist Church, in Adrian, where she was a member of the Womens Ministry and taught Sunday School for many years. She worked on the Election Board and was a former auditor for Washington Township. She graduated from Kittanning High School in 1929 and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, quilting and reading her Bible. Survivors include her daughters, Connie Hooks and Jennie (Lowell Thomas) Lash, both of Adrian; sons, Renay (Connie) Ruffner, of Cowansville, Glenn Ruffner, of East Brady, and Gene (Marilyn) Ruffner, of Cowansville; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Ruffner, whom she married Aug. 21, 1930, and who died Sept. 27, 1975; daughter, Mildred Toy; grandchild, Thomas Hooks Jr.; and brother, Gerald Bowser. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME, in Cowansville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Montgomeryville Baptist Church, in Adrian, with addition visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. David R. Skinner will officiate, assisted by the Revs. Richard McCanna and Donald Toy. Interment will be in Montgomeryville Baptist Church Cemetery.
