Paul L. Harlan, 70, died at 6:38 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.Born Aug. 22, 1938, in Alton, he was the son of Harold A. Harlan and Virginia (Depper) Harlan Plumb.On Dec. 10, 1966, he married the former Nadine Steele in Mountain View, Calif. She survives.He retired from the United States Navy after serving 20 years, and then retired from Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton. He was a member of Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, the Knights of Columbus in Godfrey and was very active with the Boy Scouts for many years.Also surviving are three sons, David Harlan and his wife, Debra, of Port Mugu, Calif., Timothy H. Harlan of Godfrey and Michael Harlan of Godfrey; two brothers, Russell Nicholson and his wife, Carolyn, of Alton and Bob Depper of Alton; a sister, Sharon Davis of Alton; three sisters-in-law, Myrlan Harlan of Alton, Jeanine Langevin and her husband, Milton, of San Jose, Calif., and Joy Wardleigh of Elk Grove, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Fr. James Steele and his wife, Julia, of Placerville, Calif.; an aunt, Colleen Depper of Godfrey; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Earl Plumb; his stepmother, Imogene Harlan; and a brother, Virgil Harlan.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate.Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, with full military honors.
