Mrs. Samantha Josephine Galloway Galloway, 84, died yesterday afternoon at 15:50 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Osa Hendricks of 215 Henderson Street, City View. For a long time she had been in failing health, her condition becoming serious four days ago.
She spent her early life in Transylvania County, North Carolina, having been born there March 21, 1866. She was a daughter of the late Lyman and Selena Patterson Galloway. She was the wife of the late Sherman Galloway. For 34 years the family home was in the Monaghan Community. Mrs. Galloway was living with her daughter in the City View community. She was known as Granny Galloway.
She was a member of the Monaghan Baptist Church and was active in the work there as long as her health permitted.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Osa Hendricks, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Mrs. J.D. O'Kelley, Mrs. Mildred Shedd, Mrs. Nammer Medlin, Mrs. Margaret Cross, and Amons E. Galloway of Greenville, South Carolina, Marvin Woodrow Galloway, of Savannah, Georgia and Ernest Hendricks of Greenville; nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Martha Hendricks of Greenville, and a brother, Caldwell Galloway of Rosman, North Carolina. Funeral plans will be announced later by the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Buried at Graceland.
