Mr. Gallagher headed the construction firm of A. W. Gallagher and Son from 1924 to 1944, when he went into semi-retirement.
He was superintendent of the state fish hatchery here until 1922. He entered the state service in 1898, and also had served at the Bayfield and Delafield hatcheries.
Mr. Gallagher was married five weeks ago to the former Mrs. Madalyn Sullivan of Madison.
He had farmed in the town of Fitchburg since his retirement. He was a member of the Oregon Methodist Church. A life member of the Madison Elks lodge, he was also a member of the Oconomowoc Masonic lodge.
He was born in the town of Cottage Grove. His first wife, the former Elizabeth McNeight of Unity, died in 1954.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L. C. McGann, 3320 Lake Mendota dr., and Mrs. Charles Hanson, Green Bay; a son, J. A. 629 W. Olin ave; a brother, Erwin, Oregon; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Oregon Methodist Church. Burial will be in Prairie Mound cemetery.
Friends may call at the Joyce funeral home after 3 p.m. today. Friends may contribute to the American Heart Foundation instead of giving flowers.
Pallbearers will be Duane Bowman, Lyman McKee, Thomas Byrne, Carl Puddester, Vincent Lacey, and Bernard Haltman.
