Mrs. Sarah Reed, of No. 26 Cumberland Street, sustained probable fatal injuries in a fall down a flight of steps at her at noon today. The accident is rendered doubly pathetic from the fact that she all but 90 years of age, and was in a sickly condition. Mrs. Reed resides with her daughter, Mrs. Agnes Glick, wife of the late, Elias Glick, and mother of Mrs. John G. Zimmerman, wife of the City Chief of Police. Members of the household were about to assist the aged lady to the first floor this morning, when they were startled by a noise on the stairway and upon Investigation found that Mrs. Reed had fallen down the stairway. She was not badly injured, however, and was assisted back to her bed. Although the stairway was guarded on her account at all times, added precautions were taken to prevent another accident, but to no avail, for just about 12 o’clock at noon today, the aged woman again forced her way out to the stairway, and when she was found by Mrs. Carrie Wolfe, a granddaughter, she was lying in a heap at the bottom of the flight of stairs and was in an unconscious condition and with blood pouring from a hole in her head and other wounds. Dr. H. H. Roedel and Dr. J. F. Peterman were summoned as quickly as possible and she was given medical attention, but there is little hope for her recovery, as her arm id stiff and she has quite evidently suffered internal injuries, which are most serious at her advanced age. Mrs. Zimmerman and other grandchildren gathered at the house this afternoon to render assistance in caring for the aged patient. Mrs. Reed, while partially lacking all her faculties, was able to be about the house, despite her age, and seemed to be in her normal health on Friday. She possesses a rugged constitution and this may stand her in good stead in her present misfortune. She will pass her ninetieth birthday anniversary if she lives until March next. Mrs. Sarah Reed, the aged woman who on Saturday afternoon fell down a flight of stairs at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Glick, at No. 26 Cumberland Street, died on Saturday evening. The end was not unexpected, a she was severely hurt in the fall and there was little hope for her recovery. The suddenness of her death and the sad demise has, however, been a shock to those nearest and dearest to the aged woman. Mrs. Sarah Reed, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Klopp Dundore, was born in Heidelberg Township, Berks County, March 26, 1822, and was therefore in the ninetieth year of her age. She was the oldest and last surviving member of a family of nine children. Of her own family, Mrs. Agnes Glick, with whom she lived, is the only living member. There are nine grandchildren, among them being: Mrs. Carrie Nagle, Mrs. John G. Zimmerman, Mrs. Charlies Reinerly, Charles P. Glick, all of this city, and Ray Glick, of Harrisburg. There are also surviving twelve great grandchildren. The funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at the Glick home; and interment will be made at Klopp's Church, near Hamlin, where the husband of Mrs. Reed was buried many years ago.
