The Death Angel visited the home of Mr and Mrs G B Adkins of 2569 1st Ave, Huntington, on the 24th day of February 1923, and took his loving sister, Julia Adkins, who was born Aug 24 1846, and being at the ripe old age of 77 years and six months, at the time of death.
She was formerly of Sias. She gave herself into the hands of God when she was between the age of twenty and twenty-five, but she didnt live a devoted christain life all this tme. A Short time before her death,, however, she said her way was clear, and just before the end came, she took each one in the room by the hand. Her Nephew,Lucain, came to her and she said; "Gold bless your poor little heart- meet me in heaven, and i want Vi and Visca and brothers and all to meet me in heaven". She was the daughter of Goldsberry and Synthia Adkins. Her mother died in 1861 and her father died in 1890. She leaves a step-mother, Mary S Adkins, of Huntington, three brothers and two sisters- G B Adkins, of Huntington, Elliott Adkins and Ira Adkins, both of Sias, and Victoria and Violett Adkins, of Sias.
Her remains were brought back and laid to rest in the Caloway cemetery near her old home, on the 27th. Services were conducted at Huntington by Rev O H Dorsey at 4 o'clock on Sunday evening. Services wee conducted at the old home place by Ebb Cummings and at the cemetery by Elijah and Rev Claud Adkins. The speakers said she was never known to harm anyone, but was inclined to doing good things.
You are sleeping dearest Julia,
Where the golden waters flow;
And I know that you are happy,
In your everlasting home.
You are gone but not forgotten,
Never shall your memory fade;
And I hope to meet dear Julia
In heaven some sweet day
Her loving heart is now at rest,
God took her home, He thought it best,
We often sit and think of you
When we are all alone
For memory is the only thing
That grief can call its own.
As we walk among the living,
Scarecely knowing where we tread;
We may laught with those around us,
But our heart are with the dead.
