Mrs. Ernestine Sports Davis, 79, died Wednesday morning (November 30, 2011) at the Hospice House Satilla after an extended illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Waycross where she worked as a homemaker and bookkeeper at the family business with her husband, Davis Amoco. She volunteered at Satilla Care Center for 18 years. She was a member of Brunel Street Church of God where she enjoyed cooking for church function, and was a member of the 1950 graduating class of Waycross High School.

She is the daughter of the late Marcus Lafayette Sports and Estella Ogden Sports. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Oliver Davis, Jr.; two brothers, Harry and J. E. Sports; and one sister, JoAnn Mobley.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Inman of Waycross and Carla Appling (husband Donald) of Sugar Hill, GA; three grandchildren, Rodney Appling (wife Karen) of Austin, TX, Scott Appling of Atlanta, and Clint Inman (wife Candy) of Waycross; three great grandchildren, Jenna Nicole Inman, Nathan James Inman and Natalie Marie Inman; three sisters, Virginia Taylor of St. Simon's Island, Mary Burch of Waycross, and Imogene Hodges of Ashville, AL; one brother, Robert Sports of Waycross; one brother-in-law, Buddy Mobley of Waycross; two sister-in-laws, Alma Marie Martin (husband Dean) of LaGrange, and Doris Davis of Swainsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday (December 3, 2011) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Volunteers of the Satilla Care Center Nursing Home are asked to gather at the Music Funeral Home at 10:40 AM Saturday to serve as honorary pallbearers.
