Mary was born in Colton, Rudeley, Staffordshire to Joseph Twigg & Ann Hunt. She married Frederick Williscroft on 14 Nov 1853 at St Mary, Colton, Staffordshire- he was 24 and she was 19.
They had 2 children in England and sailed to New Zealand aboard the ill-fated Oliver Lang which left Liverpool on the 24 Sep 1856 and arrived in Wellington on 19 Dec 1856.

An old settler, who arrived in New Zealand 71 years ago, Mrs Mary Williscroft, died in Palmerston North at the age of 94 years. She was born in Staffordshire, England, and came to New Zealand by the ship "Oliver Lang", with her husband and two children, when 23 years of age. They first settled in the Wairarapa district when it was mostly virgin bush. Mrs Williscroft became a fluent speaker of the Maori language, took a great interest in the natives and spent a lot of time teaching Maori women cooking and sewing. Afterwards the family lived in the Manawatu district and Ashburton. Six daughters survive her.
* On June 28th, 1928, at 10 Hereford Street, Palmerston North, Mary Williscroft, beloved mother of Mrs Rose Evelyn Currie; aged 94 years.

Daniel died in the Old Peoples Home, Palmerston North aged 83 and buried in Kelvin Grove
