The deceased was born in the town of Hopkinton in 1816, passing his youth on the farm. A few seasons of seafaring life were passed, and he entered the career of a manufacturer, owning and operating factories in various places in Rhode Island and Connecticut, in company with his brother Jonathan. The mill at Ashaway was for a long time under their control, and they had much to do with the prosperity of the place. They were also the founders of the National Bank here. In 1841 he married Harriet A. Taylor, who died some nine years ago. He confessed Christ by baptism many years ago, but never united with any church. His adopted daughter, Mrs. Altana M. Palmiter, an aged brother, Silas C. Wells, with other relatives, mourn their loss.
