Herbert Joseph Woodward died on 02 Jul 1941 in Blue Mountain General Hospital, Prairie City, Grant County, Oregon at age 57 from injuries sustained on 1 Jul 1941 while haying on the Casper Kohler ranch on Beech Creek near Mt. Vernon, Oregon. The seat fell from a hay buck on which he was riding, throwing him backwards causing a fracture of the cervical vertebrae. He died some 14 hours after the accident from respiratory paralysis due to a compression of the spinal cord.
