Mr. William Irvin Dennard, Jr., age 72, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the McGraw Center of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville, after a lengthy illness. Born on May 19, 1936, in Fitzgerald, GA, he was a son of the late William Irvin Dennard, Sr., and Lillian Lasseter Dennard. Mr. Dennard attended school in Pineview, Georgia and graduated from the Georgia Military Academy in Atlanta in 1954. A U.S. Army Veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Dennard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fernandina, Amelia Lodge # 47, F & AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies, the Morocco Shrine Temple and the Fernandina Beach Shrine Club. For approximately 15 years, he had been a volunteer with the Barnabas Center and First Assembly of God, collecting food for the needy from local restaurants and local grocery retailers. An avid Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Braves fan, he was always aware of his favorite player's status and the team's standings within their conference. He leaves behind, his wife of 49 years, Peggy Etheridge Dennard, Fernandina Beach, FL, their daughter, Leslie Dennard Herbert (Rick), Roswell, GA, their son, William Irvin Dennard (Paige), Fernandina Beach, FL, grandchildren, and a sister, Lasse and brother in law Hiller Gammage of Moultrie, GA. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday from the graveside in Bosque Bello Cemetery, Fernandina Beach
