Captain James Henry Pirotte USN (Ret.), "The Pirate" of Perdido Key, Florida passed peacefully into eternal life on February 10th, 2009 after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Samuels Pirotte of 47 years and his children: Tracy P. Adams (Chet Adams), Renee P. Lueck (Andy Lueck), Jay J. Pirotte (Betsy Pirotte) and five grandchildren: Max Adams, Piper, AJ and Sam Lueck, Lauren Pirotte. Jim is also survived by his siblings, Mrs. Frances Zink, Dr. Richard Pirotte, Mr. Tom Pirotte, Mr. John Pirotte, and Mrs. Pat Fritchen.
Jim was a native of Downs, KS. born on January 8th, 1935. In 1956 he entered flight training as a Naval Aviation Cadet, and received his Wings and was Commissioned an Ensign in September of 1957. He attended Saint Benedict College, later obtaining his BS degree at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. Captain Pirotte served proudly on multiple aircraft carriers to include his most recent, aboard the USS Enterprise where he served as Operations Officer. During his career he accumulated more than 7000 flight hours, over 4000 of those hours were flown in the A5A and RA5C Vigilante aircraft with more than 700 day and night carrier landings. Awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award); Navy Air Medals; Navy Commendation Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals; National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal W/3 Bronze Stars; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
A celebration of the life of Jim will be held on February 20th, 2009, 10:00am at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel with a mass said by Father James Dane, followed by interment at NAS Pensacola Barrancas Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately after the services at the Grand Lagoon Yacht Club on Gulf Beach Highway in Perdido Key, Florida.
