ADAMSVILLE - Rayford Nichols, 84, retired engineer for Tennessee Highway Department after 35 years and farmer, died Tuesday at Tri-County Convalescent Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Shackelford Funeral Home Adamsville Chapel with burial in Adamsville Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Home in Selmer has charge.

He was a World War II Army veteran and member of Adamsville First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Nichols, the widower of Georgia Robert Nichols, leaves a daughter, Kaye Pettigrew of Adamsville; two sons, Barrett Nichols of Jackson and Greg Nichols of Adamsville; a sister, Maggie Browder, and a brother, Ephraim Nichols, both of Adamsville, and four grandchildren.
