A service will take place at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, for Bert R. Bevard Jr., who died at his home in Fern Prairie.

Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints Elders Michael Moreland and Jerry MacRae will officiate.

Burial in the Fern Prairie Cemetery will follow.

Mr. Bevard was born Oct. 31, 1916, in Madison, Wisc., and had lived in the area for more than 55 years. His parents Bert Sr. and Nettie Bevard were homesteaders in the Bear Prairie area of Washougal.

As a teenager he worked at Edgar Webberley's sawmill in Fern Prairie. During World WarII he worked as a high rigging and lead man in the Kaiser shipyard un //Vancouver.

For a number of years, he was a partner in B and K Lumber Company in Bear Prairie. He later worked as a carpenter on the constructions of Smitty's Restaurant and the Camas Assembly of God church. He worked at Hambleton Bros. Lumber Company in Washougal for 20 years, retiring in 1981. He was a barker operator and maintenance man.

He is survived by his three sons, Jimmie of Camas, Mickey and Gary, both of Vancouver; a stepson James Rodgers of Glendora, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Katherine Willer of Long Beach, Calif., and Donna Knutson of Lake Oswego, Ore.; sisters Della Dobson of Independence, MO., and June Cline of Sacramento, Calif., brothers Homer of Grass Valley, Calif., Thad of Vancouver and John, also of Grass Valley. He also is survived by 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.. His wife Ellen died Feb. 10, 1987.

Mr. Bevard was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Camas since July of 1927 and the Mt. Hood Snowmobile Club.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a memorial fund at the RLDS Church.
