Stockton relatives were informed last night of the death of Francis (Frank) Alverson, 20, in action in the Solomons.
Alverson, a Stockton High School athlete and Junior Legion baseball player, was born here. His mother, Mrs. Evelyn Taft of Redondo Beach, formerly of this city, was notified of his death in a telegram from the Navy Department.
The youth enlisted in the navy November 29, 1940 on day before his eighteenth birthday. He played Junior Legion baseball as right fielder in 1938 and 1939.
His father, Pvt. Clark H. Alverson, now stationed at Lincoln (Neb.) Air Base, and a maternal grandmother in Redondo Beach also survive.
Stockton relatives include Mr. and Mrs. Merton R. Alverson, 525 East Jackson Street; Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Chalmers, 1525 West Flora Street; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schule, 123 West Acacia Street, and Leslie and Glenn Morris, aunts and uncles.
