Fred was born on Dec. 4, 1924, in Knoxboro, a son of the late Raymond H. and Dorothy M. Mandigo Henty. As a young man, he attended the Knoxboro School and graduated from Oriskany Falls High School. Fred spent his career in the dairy industry as a milk bottler. He retired from the former Peter's Dairy, located in Oriskany Falls, in 1979. He had previously worked for Simmon's Dairy.
Fred's special interests included gardening, antiquing, and crocheting. He was a life long resident of Knoxboro and a member of the former Knoxboro United Methodist Church. Fred valued and cherished his living independence. He was known to his family and friends as a great "sounding board," as he was always there to listen to their concerns.
He is survived by his niece, Debra Henty; his nephew, Douglas, and his wife, Judith Henty, all of Knoxboro; a great-nephew, Paul D. Staring, of Knoxboro; two great-nieces, Jessica L. Henty of Lafayette, IN. and Lisa M. Henty of Albany. Fred was predeceased by his two brothers, Gerald D. Henty and Norman Henty. He was also predeceased by Gerald's wife, his sister-in-law, Mildred Henty. In keeping with Fred Henty's wishes, a graveside service will be held in the spring at the Augusta Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.
