John Chamberlain served in the Revolutionary War as a common soldier, entering the services in 1780. He served in Capt. Seely's Company and Col. Waites Vermont Regt. He served nine months. When the snow became too deep, he returned home to Thetford, Orange County, Vermont. He again entered the service in Capt. Seely's Company, Vermont. Regt. in 1781, this information taken from affidavits in the Revolutionary War pensions files.

John Chamberlain also attended Dartmouth College between 1786 & 1788.
