Mary Jane was the first child of Rachel and Job Mabey. She emigrated to New Zealand on the OLYMPUS with her parents, aged 4 years, and her sister Sarah Mabey who died 2 months from New Zealand. They arrived in Wellington (then Port Nicholson) on 20-4-1841.

She married James when she was 18 and he was 21 -
They were the 1st couple to be married in the newly build church at Taita
They had 11 (known) children - just as her parents had, from 1854 to 1879, by which time she was 43 and James was 46

All the first 9 children were born in Taita, don't know yet where the 10th, Mary Jane, was born, then the last child Job, was born in Sanson in 1879 - so after having pioneered the Hutt for about 25 years they moved north to the Manawatu
She died aged 85, 24 years after James - they are buried in Sandon Cemetery
