John Atwood Straight, 86, prominent farmer of the Bethesda community died at his home at 1:20 a.m. Monday. He had been in declining health for some time. He was a native of Gallia County and spent his entire lifetime here and was a member of the Masonic lodge at Waterloo. He was born on October 17th, 1870, the son of the late Lewis and Mary Waddell Straight. He was united in marriage to Ollie Bell Neal on December 7th 1892 and she survives. 7 surviving children were born to this union; Loren of Circleville, Ohio, John E of Miami, Florida, Mrs. Myrtle Fryant of Springfield, Ohio, Mrs. Emogene Setliff of Princeton, West Virginia, Mrs. Mary Betz of Gallipolis, Joe Straight of Northup, and Mrs. Erma Allison at home. Other survivors are a sister Mrs. RP McCarley of McCarleysville, 14 grand and 11 great grandchildren. 2 sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. Jane Grube, and Mrs. Sarah Baker. A Masonic service will be held at the late home Wednesday evening. Funeral services will be held at the Bethesda Methodist church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Reverand Billy Graybeal of Christianburg will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Elliott Sanders funeral home.
