The Lehr brothers and families arrived in New York on October 12, 1880 after departing Hamburg, Germany on 29 September 1880 aboard the SS Herder. Johann and Eva arrived with five children; Barbara, Margareta, Johann, Caroline and Catherine. Andreas and Carolina arrived with seven children; Friedrich, Johann, Heinrich, Christine, Albina, Jacob and Catherine. Both families traveled directly to South Dakota. The 1900 US census shows Andreas and his second wife Carolina (Wahl) Lehr living in Hanson County, South Dakota with ten children, the youngest eight were born in South Dakota. Andreas and Carolina later lived and died in Alpena in Jerauld County, South Dakota. Johann Lehr died upon arrival in Yankton, South Dakota in November 1880. Eva Katherina (Wahl) Lehr married Adam Magstadt in 1884. The 1900 US census shows Adam and Eva Katherina (Wahl) Lehr Magstadt living in Tripp, Hutchinson County, South Dakota with three Magstadt children.
