Ann M. Kluber, 81, of McCune, Ks. died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul. She had been in failing health since September.
She was born Dec. 1, 1920 in LaClede County, Mo. near Lebanon, a daughter of Fred E. and Emma E. Elmore Bowman. She grew up and attended schools in Missouri and then moved to Kansas, where she lived most of her adult life.
For a time, she lived in Manhattan and managed the officer's club at Ft. Riley for about two years.
She later moved to Parsons, where she worked as a waitress at several local restaurants, including the former Wagon Wheel Cafe, Devine's Restaurant, the 59 Diner near Erie and Evelyn's Truck Stop.
She enjoyed fishing, embroidering, flower gardening and making cookies and Christmas candy. She was a former member of the Eagle's Auxiliary.
She and Joseph C. Kluber were married August 18, 1951 in Manhattan, Ks. He preceded her in death April 24, 1966.
Survivors include one son, Jim Kluber, McCune, Ks.; two daughters, Carol Woods of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Dorothy Maffei, McCune; two brothers, William Bowman of Springfield, Mo. and Robert Bowman of Conway Springs, Mo.; one sister, Janice Clark, McCune; and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A brother, Fred E. Bowman, Jr. of Lebanon, Mo. preceded her in death last year.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons from 3-4 p.m. Sunday. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
