When he enlisted he had 5 children and a wife, Gertie. From the early 1950's they lived on Lake Tahoma Road in a house he built with the help of a friend.
Sawmill owner and operator He logged trees and sawed them into lumber most of his life until he had a stroke. He logged in North Carolina but for many years logged in South Carolina. Once in his life he went out west to log.
He was a methodist and supported Carson's Chapel United Methodist Church off of Tom's Creek Road all of his life. He loved to sing and usually led the Singing on Sunday mornings.
He died at the Oteen Vetrans Hospital in Oteen, North Carolina, near Asheville. It being Sunday the Hospital did not call in a specialist and he died.
He was a strong Republican and never missed an Election.
He was a big man in every way and most men stepped aside when he walked down the street.
