Iva Lorene Wilson, 100, of Loveland, died Jan. 20, 2009 at McKee Medical Center. She was born Sept. 30, 1908 in western Nebraska near Broadwater to Issac Newton and Emma Luella (McKown) Martindale in the family's country home. Her early education was in a sod room and in those days it was not uncommon to have to walk several miles to and from school.

In the fall of 1919, her parents took a trip to Colorado. When they got to Loveland and saw all the trees, the beautiful mountains and a twelve-grade school at Campion, they made the decision to sell their homestead section in Nebraska and move to Loveland, where their children could receive a Christian education.

On March 31, 1923, she was baptized and joined the Campion Church, and remained a continuous member.

On June 17, 1926, she married Charles W. Wilson in Loveland. Following a short honeymoon in Estes Park, they settled on a farm east of Berthoud to begin a happy life together. They lived there 12 years, farming and raising their three boys, Cleon, Compdon and Charles Wayne, before moving to the Old Berthoud homestead in the fall of 1938. It was here that they farmed, started their dairy and had a freight line, Wilson Truck Service, which ran from Loveland to Denver five days a week. Along with her duties as a homemaker, Wilson also kept the books for the family's businesses.

She became active in Dorcas work and was a leader for many years. Wilson also served as president of the Northern Federation for one term. In the 1940s, she served as secretary of the Campion Church School for three years.

She was a member of Kil Kare Klub in Johnstown, and in the 1960s she joined the Johnstown Home and Garden Club, and competed in flower shows for many years in Johnstown. Wilson was a life member of the Colorado Federation of Garden Club, Inc. of Denver and attended a number of workshops there. She was also a lifetime member of the Audubon Foothills Bird Club, originally known as the Longmont Bird Club, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also very active with vacation Bible school.

Wilson and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the United States as well as taking numerous trips abroad, including journeys to the Holy Land, Cairo, Egypt, Jordan, Berlin and The Alps.

She is survived by her sons Cleon Wilson and his wife Alma of Loveland, Compdon Wilson and his wife Bettie of Berthoud and daughter-in-law Marian Wilson of Arizona, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, son Charles Wayne Wilson, Jr., one brother and one sister.

Funeral Services took place at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 26 at the Campion Seventh Day Adventist Church. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Berthoud.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Campion Academy Worthy Student Fund in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, CO 80537.
