MANSFIELD -- Searle L. Taylor, 90, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Oak Grove Manor.

Mr. Taylor had formerly lived in Van Wert, Ohio; Cape Coral, Fla.; and Pine Island, Fla.

He was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Van Wert County, Ohio, the son of the late Van Taylor and Olinda Lehman Taylor.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie Laemmle Taylor, whom he wed Sept. 2, 1939; children, Robert Taylor of Shelby, David (Nanette) Taylor of Urbana and Ann (William) Edler of Melbourne, Fla.; brothers, Eugene (Lenore) Taylor of Punta Gorda, Fla., and John (Nancy) Taylor of Rockford; sister, Muriel (Rex) Griffis of Waterville; grandchildren: Todd (Katrina) Taylor, Lisa (Ron) McGinnis, Mark (Angela) Taylor, Nicole (Scott) Lynch, Heidi (Mike) Ruiz; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two children, Stephen and Myrna; a granddaughter, Stacy Taylor Meredith; sister, Vada Van Wormer; and daughter-in-law, Janet Taylor.

He loved wood working and would cut walnut trees from his farm and made many pieces of furniture for the family.

His drive for success and innocence of life will be idolized by some and missed by all. He truly was from the greatest generation.

Services:11 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2005 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Van Wert, conducted by the Rev. Lance A. O'Donnell. Burial in Taylor Cemetery, Union Twp., Van Wert County. Calling hours will be 9:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at the Church.

Preferred memorials: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association.
