Levi's mother: Lavina Hiatt b:14 February 1819 Guilford College, Guilford, North Carolina, United States, d: about 1866 Laredo, Grundy, Missouri, United States.
On the same grave marker is one of his sons, Morris Luther. Though Levi had reverted back to the spelling of the last name to BEALS, Morris had maintained the BALES spelling that Levi once had. There is much confusion that was caused by the spelling change. It's my recollection in family history told to me by Morris' daughter, Annis Loraine, that Levi had wanted to go back to the earlier spelling as maybe did Morris. It's not presently known if Levi had legally changed his name back to BEALS or simply just "made it so". All of Morris' children were born with the last name BALES as one of this children is my grandfather, Verill Dearing Bales. I've never been able to determine Levi's middle name.
