Donald R. Spence, age 78, of Zanesville, Ohio, died at 6:35 pm Saturday May 13, 2006 at the Adams Lane Care Center. He was born August 17, 1927 in Belle Valley, Noble County, the son of the late Clarence Brady and Edith Crystal Knight Spence. Donald was a veteran owner and horse trainer. He was a past member of the Ohio Harness Horseman Association and the United States Trotting Associating. He loved horses, all animals and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Donald was a Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his longtime companion and friend, Betty Huffman of Zanesville; two sisters, Shirley (Oliver) Vestre of Nashport, Ohio and Glenna (Richard) Fleming of Zanesville, a sister in-law, Donna Spence of Newark, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl R. Spence.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, near Adamsville, with Brother Bill Jones officiating.

Friends may call 11:00 am till 12:30 p.m. today at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville.
