Eckler, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of Middlefield passed away at his home near that village Friday at 2:30 p.m. after a brief illness caused by a paralytic shock with which he was stricken late Thursday afternoon. He had been unusually active for one of his age and had attended church, as was his usual custom, on the previous Sunday. Mr. Eckler was he son of Benjamin and Fannie (Springer) Eckler and was born in the town of Springfield, December 16, 1842. He later moved with his parents to Middlefield where he had since resided. December 25, 1875, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Mary Marsh Eckler whose death occurred January 20, 1920. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church and one of the most generous contributors and his death will be keenly felt not only in the church but in the entire community. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Belle Borst of Oneonta, a granddaughter, Mrs. Francis Tyler of Middlefield and by three great grandchildren, Cora, Madeline, and Mahlon Tyler; also by several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held from his late home Monday at 2 p.m., his pastor, the Rev. P.S. Lehman officiating. Burial in the family plot in the Middlefield cemetery. There were several beautiful floral tributes from relatives and from the Methodist church.
