Mary Hassinger was born Maria Katharina on 26 March 1847 in Hahnheim, Germany. She immigrated to America with her family arriving in New York on 10 July 1848 on the U.S. ship American Eagle. Mary moved to San Francisco between 1870 and 1880, working as a servant in the Jacob Schleicher household. The cremation record shows that Mary died 8 January 1882 in San Francisco. Her ashes were removed March 12, 1900 in the San Francisco IOOF Crematorium and signed by her uncles Christian Hoffman of Santa Cruz and August Schleicher, son of Jacob and Katharine Hoffman Schleicher, of San Francisco. Her ashes were reclaimed on 10 December 1901 by A. F. Schleicher, along with the ashes of August's father Jacob and his sisters Louisa and Macholena and interred in the Jacob Schleicher family plot.
