ABNER, VIRGIL ABNER. STANFORD - Virgil L. Abner, 83, of Greenwood, Ind., died Monday in Greenwood. Born Jan. 11, 1923, in Glasgow, he was a son of the late Virgil and Daisy M. Abner. He was retired from RCA and a member of Smith Valley Baptist Church in Greenwood. Survivors include his wife, Shelby Jean Bastin Burton Abner; a son, Michael Abner; two daughters, Carol Burns and Debbie Goodnight; a stepson, Joe K. Burton; three brothers, Bill Abner, Frankie Graham and Harry Abner; two sisters, Sarah Smith and Shirley Spradlin; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Forrest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County by the Rev. Matt Jones. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Forrest Lawn Funeral Home and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at New Salem Baptist Church. Spurlin Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. (AM Tue Oct 17, 2006)
