Mr. James Jackson Paris
Graham — Mr. James Jackson “Uncle Jack” Paris, 80, of 5475-A Swepsonville-Saxapahaw Road, died at 1:02 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his son’s residence after two years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Essie Leach Paris and the son of Mr. George Walker Paris and Mrs. Bennie Durham Paris, both deceased. He was owner and operator of Jack Paris Store for 55 years. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he was in the Men’s Bible Class.
He was an Alamance County commissioner from 1968 to 1972 and from 1976 to 1984.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Thomas M. Holt Masonic Lodge No. 492 AF and AM. He was a lifetime member of the Burlington Shrine Club and was a member of the American Legion Post, Snow Camp. He was manager of the 54 Ramblers during the 1950s.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Bennie (Keller) Smith of Atlanta; two sons, Mr. George (Brenda Allen) Paris of Mebane and Mr. Nelson (Rachel) Paris of Graham; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church by Dr. Jeff Arthurs and the Rev. Sam Martin. Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The Thomas M. Holt Masonic Lodge No. 492 AF and AM will meet for emergent communications at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to conduct Masonic graveside rites.
