Jim Klein was born June 1, 1929, in Sheboygan, Wis., son of Alfred Sr. and Theresa Klein. He spent his four high school years at St. Lawrence Seminary in Mt. Calvary, Wis., and continued his education at Marquette University in Milwaukee where he graduated in 1952 with a degree in Latin and English. Jim later continued his education, obtaining a master¹s degree in Latin and English.
His teaching career began in Ontonagon in 1952 and continued there until his retirement in 1989.
On Oct. 18, 1980, James Klein married the former Charlene Hebert at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Jim was active in school activities and organized and was the advisor of the first National Honor Society at the Ontonagon High School.He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he spent many years as an usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a 24-year member of the Ontonagon Village Council, many of those years as mayor pro-tem, and he was a longtime member of the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital Board, and the board of directors of the Ontonagon Area Scholarship Foundation.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfred Klein Jr.; and a niece, Nancy Tanck.
He was survived by his wife, Charlene; great-nieces, Myranda and Jessica Tanck; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Klein, all of Sheboygan. He was also survived by a brother-in-law, Bob Hebert; nieces and nephews, Roberta and Bill Chabot, and Judy and Ken Roehm of Ontonagon; niece and nephew, Charlene and David Allie of Marquette; and several great- and great-great-nieces and-nephews.
