He was employed by International Harvester Company for 39 years, in the Planning and Research Department. He retired 1 Nov 1954. According too his obituary in the "Canton Daily Register" he held a lifetime membership in the Canton Works Club. He was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Canton. He was born in Jasper County, Illinois, the first son of Daniel V. and Winnifred Kirkham. There was no high school in the area of Jasper COunty where he grew up, so he went to Granite City (near St. Louis) to live with his mother's relatives while he attended school. He was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Granite City. He made a trip west with his son Keith, sending a postcard home to his mother Winnifred Foster Kirkham telling of their visit to Yellowstone. It is likely that Ellis and Keith also visited Tillamook County, Oregon, where Ellis's uncles Tom, Frank and Job were living, and where his grandfather William (father of Winnifred) was buried. Ellis's brothers Frank also visited Oregon, and Ross also, in 1947. Ellis's burial date, 1 Oct 1964, was provided by a person (now deceased) who worked in a local mortuary who entered the basic data into Findagrave as a public record.
