Mrs, Catherine W. Burgett passed from this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harl Ogburn in Corning, Tuesday, September 28, 1920. Funeral sevices were held at the Presbyterian Church, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.C, Miles. Interment was made in Walnut Grove cemetery.
Catherine Whetstone was born in Pennsylvania on the 29th of June, 1834, being aged 86 years and 3 months at the time of her demise. On September 2, 1855, she was united in marriage with John J. Burgett, who 12 years ago preceded her into the great unseen. Mrs. Burgett was the mother of five daughters and five sons, seven whom remain to cherish the memory of a devoted mother.
The living children are Mrs. Mary Lemuel of Chicago; Mrs. Frank Bailiff, Yuma, Colo.; Mrs. Minnie Burgett, of Des Moines; Mrs. William Lock, Corning; and the two sons, Louis Burgett, of Quincy, and Frank Burgett, of Corning. The children, with the exception of Mrs. Burgett, of Des Moines, were all present at the funeral.
Mrs. Burgett was a member of the First Baptist church and was loyal to her faith. Only a few days before her home going, she expressed that that she felt in her Lord and Master, and her readiness to respond to his call whenever he should will.
She was a woman of remarkable energy, working diligently with her hands. She had plans still ahead for doing things even at her advanced age. Mrs. Burgett made friends during her residence in Corning at the home of her daughter; she also made several trips to the homes of her children in other places, and visited at her childhood home in Indiana. Beside her children, she leaves a number of grandchildren and several great grandchildren to mourn her departure.
