Kimberly Ann Burtard-Swofford
April 28, 1980 - April 20, 2008

Kimberly Ann Burtard-Swofford passed away unexpectedly at her home on April 20, 2008 at the sweet tender age of 27. Kimberly worked as a Library Technician at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO. She loved her job very much and as always went above and beyond. She was always happy to help anyone who came into the library and she was able to direct them right to what they were inquiring about. Students at Mesa State looked up to her as a friend and could always expect kind words or words of encouragement. While working in the library one of her favorite things to do there was to help in the Special Collections Department. There, she enthusiastically did what was asked of her. The Director said to Kimberly's family that when she first came to Mesa State, Kimberly welcomed her and that if she could not find something, her first thought was "Where is Kimberly"? Kimberly had a voice that carried and always had to be reminded that she was in the library and her response was always the same, hand over her mouth while apologizing profusely. Till the next time! Kimberly loved to hunt, go camping, fishing and hiking. She loved the outdoors when she was out there with people she loved, especially her brother, Garrett. Their favorite place to hike was Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon. She was a very witty person. She was proud of her heritage and as she put it, "I put the can in Mexican and the drink in Irish." She loved a good joke and always enjoyed the jokes her Grandfather, Oliver would tell her. He would tell it, she would laugh hysterically and tell him "Grandpa that was a good one". Kimberly also had jokes of her own that she would share with him. Kimberly loved music, she said that she couldn't sing but that didn't stop her. She loved Rod Stewart, whom everyone claims, was because her mother and aunts forced her to like him. When Kimberly was younger, she and her sister would fill cups up with cereal and tell jokes, or funny stories about what happened that day. Even as they grew older and lived in separate homes, she would invite Christina over for some cereal, always making sure she was stocked up on her favorite kinds. Her family was so important to her. She would always call and check in on her brothers because she never knew what kind of trouble they might be in. She was the best older sister in the world. Kimberly was born April 28, 1980 in Delta, CO. Her parents are Wanda Swofford of Fruita, CO and Tom Burtard (deceased) of Carbondale, CO. She is survived by her mother, Wanda, whom she loved dearly; her father Lee Swofford of Clifton, CO; sister Christina Turner (Eric) of Grand Junction, CO; sister-in-law Ashley Swofford (Garrett) of Grand Junction, CO; brother Joe Swofford of Grand Junction, CO; brother Nicholas Swofford of Fruita, CO; brother Jon Burtard of Denver, CO; and sister Brooke Burtard of Denver, CO; her maternal grandparents, Oliver and Beatrice Archuleta, whom she loved dearly, of Grand Junction, CO; and her paternal grandmother Gertrude Burtard of Carbondale, CO. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, a nephew, Brady Swofford and a niece, Delylah Swofford. Kimberly was preceded in death by her father Tom Burtard, her beloved brother Garrett and her grandfather Joe Burtard. She will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched in one way or another. She is loved very, very much! We will miss that beautiful smile that lit up her whole face. There will never be anyone that will ever take her place in our lifetime. Rest in peace sweet girl! A rosary will be recited Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. The funeral mass will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita, CO. Burial will follow in New Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 225 N. 5th St., Grand Junction, CO 81501.
