Melvin A. Clearwaters, 90, of Wenatchee, went home to be with his Lord early Wednesday morning, June 3, 1998, at his residence.

He was born May 23, 1908, in Spokane, to Guy and Hannah (Poe) Clearwaters.

Melvin Clearwaters and Jessie Ratekin were married on Jan. 1, 1932, at the United Methodist Church in Spokane. They moved to Wenatchee in 1952 and lived here until 1967 when they moved to the coast. They returned to Wenatchee in 1984 where they have since resided.

Melvin was a carpenter and had worked for various construction companies. While in Olympia, he worked on 11 different bridge projects. He worked on Chief Joseph, Rocky Reach, Rock Island and Grand Coulee dams. He also helped build the First United Methodist Church of Wenatchee.

He was born and raised on a farm in Spokane, so he enjoyed working as an orchardist on an apple farm in Manson. He had a great love for animals. He also was an avid reader, particularly his Bible and also the writings of Mark Twain. He loved working with his hands in woodworking and made cabinets and furniture.

He was raised in a Christian home and since early childhood attended church regularly. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee. He also belonged to the Riverside Masonic Lodge No. 112 F&AM in Wenatchee, the Wenatchee Carpenters Local Union and the Horticulture Association.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jessie Clearwaters; his son, Warren D. and his wife Shirley Clearwaters of Chelan; his daughter, Bonnie L. and her husband Jim Whitlatch of Moses Lake; his grandchildren, Karen and her husband Bob Robelia of Chelan Falls, Corrine and her husband Dave Berg of Puyallup, Colleen Clearwaters of Bellingham, Shelley Stevens of Los Angeles, Calif., and Darrin D. and his wife Jocelyn Flitton of Wenatchee; his great-grandchildren, Fona Crocket of Omak, Aryn Robelia of Chelan Falls, and Kyle and Brandon Berg of Puyallup; his brother, Willis Clearwaters of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and a sister.

Services are under the care of Betts Funeral Service, Wenatchee.
