JENNIE WISEGARBER

When the family of our departed sister came to me to write and read a short sketch of her life, it seemed a sad thing for me to do, yet I consented to do so, and I also doubt if any one of this audience outside of her own immediate family, has known or been associated with Sister Jennie Wisegarber longer than I. Our parents were neighbors of our present city of New Castle during our early childhood and school days, and in later years we also have been very closely associated in Sunday school and church work, and our missionary work of the C.W.B.M. society of our church.

Jennie McDowell, daughter of Alexander and Julia McDowell, was born in New Castle, Oct. 29, 1853. Departed this life, Oct. 13, 1920, lacking seven days of being 67 years old. She was united in marriage to F. T. Wisegarber, Jun. 1, 1871, by Elder D. H. Carry. She was a faithful wife and devoted mother always preferring their comfort and happiness to her own.

She leaves a husband, three sons: J. C. of Chicago, J. H. of Richmond and C. F. of IA; one sister, Mrs. Cecil Ryan of Chicago; one brother, John McDowell of this city. Her children were at her bedside much of the time during her 15 weeks of illness, which she bore so patiently, which was so characteristic of her Christian life.

She became a member of the First Christian Church, of our city, during the early 70's, under J. B. Ludwig's ministry. She was a faithful member during the remainder of her life, ever ready to perform any duty or work that she was called on to do for the church or Sunday school. She was also a member of the Missionary C.W.B.M. society since the early part of its organization, also a member of the Women's Relief Corps since June 2, 1892. She and also our late departed Sister Linda? Hinshaw, who are so recently called Home, will be much missed by all us. They have passed on to their reward and will welcome us when we are called Home.
