Solomon enlisted September 14, 1862 as a private in Company F, 69th Regiment of North Carolina Troops, also known as the 7th Regiment of North Carolina Cavalry (Confederacy).

Charter member of Locust Grove Baptist Church, January 18, 1891.

Ordained as a deacon of Locust Grove Baptist Church, December 12, 1891.

His obituary in the Asheville Citizen, July 23 1919, page 16, read as follows:

Sol. E. Arrowood of North Buncombe Dead

Sol. E. Arrowood, age 71, one of the leading and best known men in North Buncombe, died at his home in Flat Creek township on July 16. He was buried at Locust Grove Baptist Church. He served in the Confederate army and stood for those things which went for the growth and upbuilding of the community, and was a power of strength in every good cause. Mr. Arrowood was an active member of the Masonic fraternity for many years, and was laid to rest by his brother Masons. The deceased is survived by his widow and seven children: Josiah, Bascombe, Lonnie, and Aster Arrowood; Mrs. W.H. Chandler, Mrs. Ed A. DeBruhl, and Mrs. C.B. Wilson.
